The issue being in Panama City isn’t just comfort but enjoyment. In order for you to have fun while going around this beautiful city, there are five simple things you must remember:

Wear sunscreen.
This may sound funny since Panama is usually a cloudy place. But like it or not, you must always apply sunscreen in your face, neck, and back. Why so? Because Panama is just eight degrees north of the equator. This means that humans are much more susceptible to get fried with ultraviolet rays compared to someone in Iowa (especially if you’re from Iowa). Nobody’s exempt, that includes you. Unless of course, you enjoy looking like cooked lobster and the feel of sunburn on your skin.

Do not be rude to the locals.
Panamanians (especially the city folks) are not the friendliest people in the world. But they’re not the rudest either. So, if you’re not nice to them, they can simply return the attitude back at you. As for me, I always initiate every encounter with a smile. I try to make them at ease. It may sound very Miss America, but a smile always helps to win people over. And they’re free too. Just don’t be a moron about it.

Bring a camera wherever you go.
Panama is one of the best places that photographers love to visit. If you’re not good in taking photos, the breathtaking beauty of the sceneries will force you to be one. The sceneries range from the panoramic view of the Panama Canal to the low light shots of the city during night time. There are so many things to appreciate in Panama and many pictures you will take. You will never, ever be bored with a camera in Panama. I promise you that.

Don’t dress down when you’re out and about.
If you’re observant enough, you’ll realize that the people of Panama are accustomed to going out, dressed up. A person wearing baggy clothes walking around the streets is a rare sight. When you go to the grocery stores, you won’t find anybody wearing baggy clothes and flip-flops (unless they’re tourists). Dressing down is still a ‘no-no’ according the general decorum of Panama. So a bit of tasteful clothing not only makes you look good, you get treated better by the natives as well.

Be in your best behavior.
No tourist who drains out his/her pocket for a Panama vacation should put on a sad face. You can’t afford to, really. Panama is like the last place you’d want to have a bad mood in. Nor will it be very hard to stay annoyed for long. When the party in Panama starts, the fun comes rollling and you forget why you ever put on a frowny face. That’s the reason you go to Panama, right? To have fun? Don’t ever forget that.

What Booze Can You Enjoy In Panama?

What’s a tourist destination without booze to set you in the party mood? When you’ve come to indulge in Panama, indulge not only in shopping and in food; go here for the booze! Alcohol is common in the city. And no self-respecting establishment is worthy without being able to serve you a cool glass of cocktails or better yet, ice cold beer.

The most popular drink in Panama is Panama Seco. A sugarcane-based alcoholic beverage, seco is a clear drink with a very different yet harsh taste. It’s not like your typical drink. It has a proof of 70 to 80, which you need to becareful with. Locals usually mix it with other liquids like milk or coconut water. That way, the taste improves while the level of intoxication becomes more gradual.

Seco is considered a national alcoholic drink. Locals usually drink this as a substitute to vodka or rum. You’ll certainly look for this when you get to Panama. Make sure though that you find a local who can give you a good, if not best, mix of seco drink. Perhaps, a company of locals would also make up a good drinking session.

When you’re in Panama, don’t be surprised to see a lot of locals drinking alcohol almost every time you see them. They drink more beer than those in Central and South America.

The city boasts of its locally brewed beer namely Atlas, Soberana, Panama, Balboa, and Crystal. These are aside from their pride—the seco. Panama provides a wide variety of alcoholic drinks that tourists or just serious drinkers must try. Brewery is something common in this city because of the good quality of water they have. And your taste buds will definitely notice this.

Their local beers may not be considered outrageous but these drinks definitely mix well with the sticky, hot climate. There are available international brands like Corona found in markets but to the locals nothing beats their own. When in Panama, don’t miss the opportunity of trying the local drinks. Internationally manufactured beers will always be available everywhere but not the Panama booze.
